Where Is Hooker Furniture Made?

Just a few years shy of celebrating its 100-year anniversary, Hooker Furniture is still one of the largest publicly-traded furniture companies that is still led by the founding family. It all started in 1925 when Clyde Hooker Jr. began his company to make well-crafted furniture for the American consumer.

Fast forward nearly a century, and the company continues its operations today, but on a much larger scale. They remain headquartered in their state of origin, Martinsville, Virginia, where they own several facilities. Another facility is located in Hickory, North Carolina.

Hooker Furnishings is a broader company that owns a family of brands, including: BOBO Intriguing Objects, Bradington-Young, Drew & Jonathan Home, HF Custom, and more. They operate showrooms in North Carolina, Virginia, and Vietnam. Distribution centers are in North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, California, China, and Vietnam.

This American-origin company has come a long way in its near-100 years. From a small Virginia crafts center to a global enterprise, let’s continue to explore where Hooker Furniture is manufacturing its products today.

Verdict: Is Hooker Furniture Made in the USA?

Only a select few pieces of Hooker Furniture are made in the USA. Hooker Furniture manufactures domestically and overseas. The primary location for manufacturing is Vietnam.

According to its website, the company builds its higher-end products locally in Virginia and North Carolina. Other designs are produced in Hooker’s foreign factories, which are located in Asia, Mexico, and Central America.

A search for the term “Made in USA” on the Hooker website yields three products. However, whether these items are made in the USA is up in the air. Their product pages do not reveal the country of origin. Yet, we can glean from the company’s statement above that any stock advertised on its website is likely manufactured abroad.

The products from Hooker Furniture that are made in the USA include their custom orders (made in Bedford, Virginia) and upscale leather upholstery (made in Hickory, North Carolina). Everything else is being shipped in from overseas. However, it’s difficult to decipher which items qualify as “upscale leather upholstery” on the Hooker Furniture website.

To clear things up, we gave them a call. Here is our conversation:

AA: Hello, I would like to know what products are made in the USA?
Hooker Furniture: those lines will be the HS Custom and the Bradington-Young … some of the Hooker Furniture items might be made in the US. The majority are made in Vietnam.
AA: Can I find which products are American made on your website?
HF: Let me see…. Unfortunately, it doesn’t say where the item is made. Bradington-Young is made in the US as well.
AA: is Bradington-Young a product line under Hooker?
HF: Yes, it is.
AA: And are all of the Bradington-Young products made in the USA?
HF: Yes, they are.

The upscale leather upholstery line that the company bio references is the Bradington-Young collection. We followed through to their website and found the following information about their manufacturing:

According to the Bradington-Young website, their products are indeed manufactured in the US, from their home state of North Carolina. At this location, leather is also processed for furniture items by Hooker Furniture. Although manufacturing occurs here, materials, including their leather options, are sourced from around the world.

In conclusion, all of the stock furniture listed on Hooker Furniture’s website is made overseas, mostly in Vietnam. The brand builds American made items through their custom line, HF Custom, and Bradington-Young.
