Cuisinart is a home appliance brand headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, which is often synonymous with its most famous appliance and the one that started it all – the food processor. Cuisinart was started in 1971 by Carl Sontheimer out of his love for French cooking. They started with the food processor and quickly expanded to other small kitchen appliances like coffee makers, microwaves, toasters, and a variety of cookware. The company also played an important role in universal design, making all their appliances accessible to folks with disabilities. Cuisinart ran into trouble in the mid-1980s after sales started to decline and eventually filed for bankruptcy in 1989. That led Conair, their current owner, to buy them at rock bottom price soon after that. So, with quite the roller coaster of company history, is Cuisinart making any of its kitchen appliances in the USA? We did the research to find out; our verdict is below.
Verdict: Is Cuisinart Cookware Made in the USA?
No, Cuisinart food processors, cookware, and other kitchen appliances are not made in the USA. Most Cuisinart products are made in manufacturing facilities in China and France.
This news isn’t super surprising to us given the French emphasis on the Cuisinart brand and their past relationships with chefs that had a very French emphasis like Julia Child and James Beard. It’s getting tougher and tougher to find quality kitchen appliances that are made in the USA.
However, if you are in the restaurant business and need some commercial appliances, Cuisinart has a sister company called Waring Commercial that has some American made options. However, a lot of them are made with a few foreign components, so they are not 100% made in the USA.
What bugs us more than the fact that Cuisinart products are not made in the USA is the fact that the country of origin is not clearly stated on their website for each product. While it’s stamped right on the product and packaging (thanks to the U.S. Code that requires it), a lot of consumers are shopping online, where it is very tough to find.
So, we called Cuisinart and did some in-store shopping to find their most popular products and where they are made. Below is a summary of some of those products.
