Where Are Hoka Shoes Made?

Head to any weekend fun run and you’re likely to see a whole herd of Hoka wearers jog by. From marathons to 5ks, there is an ever-growing crew of loyalists to Hoka shoes. They’re easy to spot, too: the oversized midsoles and puffy base are iconic to the brand.

The company was founded in 2009 in Annecy, France. The name itself comes from the Māori phrase meaning “to fly.” In 2023, Hoka was purchased by parent brand Deckers, which also owns UGG and Teva.

In 2024, annual sales totaled nearly $5 billion under the Deckers brand family as a whole. Deckers serves a global market and is based in Santa Barbara, California. Hoka also claims the same city as home. Smaller corporate offices are located in other cities, including Portland, Oregon, London, and Hong Kong.

Hoka’s oversized midsole footprint is a global one. Although they began in France, the company is now based in California. We’d like to know where they are manufacturing their shoes.

Verdict: Are Hoka Shoes Made in the USA?

No. Hoka Shoes are not made in the USA. They are manufactured primarily in China and Vietnam.

Parent brand, Deckers, utilizes suppliers all over the world, most of which are located in China.

Manufacturing may be completed overseas, but some materials are sourced from the United States, including leathers and sheepskins.

The above statement is from the Deckers sustainability report, which includes leather-heavy brands like UGG. Hoka shoes typically don’t include leather and therefore don’t include much US-sourced material. There are some exceptions, however, like the Hoka Bondi SR, a recovery shoe.

We searched for the labels on the shoes themselves to cross-verify the country of origin. Here’s what we found.

This shoe is made in Vietnam:

Also made in Vietnam:

All of the shoes we looked at featured “Vietnam” on their product tags. Branching out from shoes, we also searched their apparel line tags. In this case, they all read, “China.”

Turning back to the website, we began a direct search of their online catalog. A search for “made in the USA” returned 31 products (shoes and apparel), but none of the pages described manufacturing origins, production, or sourcing locations.

After checking the website, we still wanted to know for sure if there were any US-made items in the Hoka lineup. We jumped into a live chat with their customer support team to ask. Here is that conversation:

Simply put, Hoka doesn’t even have a manufacturing presence in the US. The closest you’re going to get is one of their leather-uppers, as the majority of the leather Deckers brands use is sourced from the US.
