Americat Company

Americat makes dual-purpose scratcher beds that give kitties a place to sleep and satisfy their scratching instincts. Cats love the box-like feel and the curved design that perfectly fits their backs when they curl up. Plus, the raised edges give them the sense of security they crave.

Kuranda

Headquarters: Glen Burnie, MD

States manufacturing in: MD

Kuranda cat beds provide soft, orthopedic comfort for kitties along with the opportunity to jump up to another level to view the world from a comfy raised perch. The long legs of these beds create a secluded spot underneath to give a shy cat a private spot purr-fect for napping. The PVC frame and solid vinyl fabric are nonporous and can be easily wiped clean, making these beds a great choice for outdoor cattios.

Imperial Cat

This company’s products include Sofa Scratch ‘n Shapes, which provide kitties with a place to scratch and take a cat nap. These sofas are available in a variety of styles and prints.

New Cat Condos

States manufacturing in: AZ

This company makes a carpeted cat house with a bed that is less expensive than their cat trees, but still gives your fur baby a place to climb, play, scratch, and sleep. It’s compact enough to fit anywhere in your home. However, keep in mind that New Cat Condos sources some of its materials from outside the U.S.

SnugglyCat

Headquarters: Gilboa, NY

States manufacturing in: NY

This brand makes the Ripple Rug, which serves as a bed, a play space, a scratching spot, or just a way for your kitty to burrow or hide. The rug, made from recyclable materials, contains holes of various sizes for cats to poke their heads through or stick their paws in. When they are worn out from playing, they just nestle into the rug for a nap.

FurFluffy

Headquarters: Pauline, SC

States manufacturing in: SC

FurFluffy is a cat tree company, but they make stand-alone cat beds as well. This brand also produces cat condos that kitties can use for playtime as well as naptime. Some include scratching posts, making them true multipurpose pieces of feline furniture.

Bon Cat Furniture

Headquarters: Anaheim, CA

States manufacturing in: CA

This brand’s products include cat houses and stackable hammocks. We particularly love the Bon House, which is a combination of a house, bed, and cave that even includes an adjustable outside tray with ceramic food and water bowls. Inside there’s a comfy pillow with a cotton cover. There’s also a scratching carpet on top of the house. All Bon Cat Furniture products are assembled domestically. However, a few components are imported, such as their birch plywood from Russia.

PlaytimeWorkshop

Headquarters: Fort Lauderdale, FL

States manufacturing in: FL

PlaytimeWorkshop is mainly known for its kitty condos and hotels, but the company also makes cat tents and durable hammocks. The hammocks are stackable, making them ideal for multi-feline households. PlaytimeWorkshop’s tents can house up to two cats and have a faux fur sheepskin bottom. Although this company assembles its products in the USA, some parts are sourced from elsewhere.

Molly and Friends

Headquarters: Gainesville, FL

States manufacturing in: FL

Molly and Friends mainly makes multi-level cat trees, but they also have smaller options that work great as a cat bed with a few additional features. For example, their Feline Recliner is a cat bed on top of a scratching post. One of the things we love about this company is their products are made from solid wood, which makes them extra durable.

Square Cat Habitat

Headquarters: Portland, OR

States manufacturing in: OR

This company creates a unique piece of furniture that kitties and their human parents can use: the Mouse, a modern-style shoe bench with a square cat home on one end. The bench has large and smaller cubbies for your footwear. You can buy an optional upholstery foam pillow for the cat cubby so your fur baby can snooze comfortably.

The Cat Ball

Headquarters: Bellevue, WA

States manufacturing in: WA

The Cat Ball is more than a kitty bed. It’s a six-sided cat cave with two openings. Your feline friend can sleep in it, hide in it, and play in it. This company also makes Cat Canoe beds with lots of colors and patterns to choose from. There’s a jumbo-sized option for those with bigger cats or more than one kitty.

How to Find Cat Beds Made in the USA

If you want the best bed for your fluffball, buying one made in the USA is your best option because American-produced goods last longer and save you money in the long run because they don’t have to be replaced as often as their less expensive imported counterparts.

However, finding domestically made cat beds and other pet products can be challenging and may require some research. Fortunately, we are here to help! Keep reading for our tips for finding kitty beds made in the USA.

What Does “Made In The USA” Mean?

Let’s start with the basics. The Federal Trade Commission defines “made in the USA” as “all or virtually all” made in the United States. In other words, a product must be manufactured here with domestic materials.

For more information on this topic, read our comprehensive guide on made in the USA labeling.

Materials

Finding out where its materials come from is the key to finding cat beds made in the USA. Naturally, you want a cat bed produced with all domestically sourced components. This will require research to determine if you are getting a durable product and supporting American jobs.

Cat beds are made from various materials: plush, foam, and faux fur. Here’s where those materials typically come from.

Plush

Plush is a popular material for cat beds because it feels like fur, which reminds kitties of their younger days when they cuddled with their mom and siblings. Plush has a cotton fiber base, while the pile is made from cotton, viscose, silk, or wool.

Plush production originated in the United States in the early 1900s. A lot of this material is now manufactured overseas, but you can still find some made here. If you narrow your search to 100% cotton plush, you should be able to find some from the USA since our country ranks third globally after China and India in cotton production.

Faux Fur

Another soft fabric used in cat beds is faux fur, a mixture of polyester and acrylic fibers. China leads the world in producing those materials, so you are most likely to find faux fur made there. However, the USA does manufacture some of this fabric.

Foam

Foam, particularly memory foam, is often used to make cat beds. Unfortunately, China makes most of the world’s foam. However, a few US companies produce this material. Taking the time to seek them out is worth it because domestic foam tends to be of higher quality.

Labeling

As we mentioned earlier, the FTC protects the “made in the USA” label to make it easier for consumers to determine what products were all or virtually all produced domestically. If you discover a company is making false claims about a cat bed’s origin, you should file a complaint with the FTC to get the label removed.

Some brands play games with labeling to make it seem like their products are made here when they aren’t. Be on the lookout for phrases such as “designed in the USA” or “assembled in the USA,” which could mean only part of the production process took place in the United States. Another common trick companies use is labeling their goods as “made in America” when manufactured in Mexico or Canada.

Title 19 Chapter 4 Section 1304 of the United States Code mandates that all imported products be labeled with their country of origin. Unfortunately, brands have no legal obligation to indicate online or in other advertising where their goods come from.

Other Tips

Here are more ways to help you find cat beds made in the USA.

Check The ‘About Us’ Page

Brands typically use the “About Us” page on their website to state their history and values. Companies know some shoppers are looking specifically for American-made products, so if they made their goods here, they are likely to promote that on this page.

Another thing to look for on a brand’s website is their address and other contact information. If you can’t find it, the company probably isn’t US-based.

Check Social Media

Look at the brand’s social media pages. Companies that pride themselves on being “made in the USA” will likely have that information listed there to attract shoppers.

Call Them

If in doubt, you can always call the company to ask where their goods are made. Most of the time, a brand representative will do their best to answer your questions.

Cat Beds Not Made in the USA

During our research, we found some popular cat bed brands that make their beds overseas. We will continue to update the list as we find more imported cat beds.

  • PetFusion – Made in China.
  • Furhaven Bed Cover – Made in China. Some of their cat beds are designed, assembled, warehoused, and shipped in the USA using domestically sourced filling materials, but the bed covers are made in China.
  • L.L. Bean – Their smaller dog beds work for cats, too. They are either made in the USA with imported components or listed as “imported” – each product states this on their website.
