Where Are THOR Appliances Made?

Named after the Norse god of thunder and lightning is THOR Appliances. No, they don’t sell mystical hammers to immortals, but they do want you to “Cook Like A God.” That’s right, THOR Appliances can be found in the kitchen. They make everything from fridges to outdoor range tops.

The company is relatively new, founded in 2015, and plays its cards like this: outfit your new kitchen with stainless steel appliance sets for under $5,000. The name of the game is affordability, although they do sell some higher-priced products.

THOR is based out of Ontario, California, and it sells its products through retail partners such as Home Outlet Direct, Lowe’s, and even Amazon. Other common places to find THOR are local appliance dealers.

For THOR, it’s all about value. Does that mean cutting corners when it comes to outsourcing their manufacturing? Let’s find out.

Verdict: Are THOR Appliances Made in the USA?

No, THOR Appliances are not made in the USA. They are designed in the USA, but made in China.

Like the stubborn grime left at the bottom of a neglected oven, it took some digging to get to the bottom of this brand. From several third party reviewers, it was suspected that THOR likely manufactures overseas. But, we need something a bit more concrete than that before marking this investigation complete.

Unfortunately, the THOR website was rather useless in this regard. Their About Page is minimal and offers no substantial background or history. After searching their website – company pages and product information – to no avail, we moved to finding product labels.

This company is less than a decade old…basically a newborn in the scene of kitchen appliances. Because of that, customer images are hard to come by. However, we did find one very telling image:

The manufacturer reads: Donguan Hyxion Metal Technology. Naturally, we followed this thread. The information we found about this facility revealed that it’s a freestanding business that produces for many brands and is even actively accepting more business partners.

This tidbit shows us that many third-party reviewer statements we read claiming that THOR owns its factory were false.

We did reach out directly to THOR to ask them about their manufacturing. However, after nearly a week, we never received a response. And unfortunately, THOR advertises no other way to contact them on their website. How convenient. Despite this roadblock, we were still able to gather enough information from news articles and product labels.

Assembly and manufacturing take place in China, and an array of imported materials are used, including some American. Some parts, like stove burners, igniters, and valves, may come from countries such as Spain, Italy, and Germany.

THOR is a privately owned company and still quite small. From what we could find from our research, they have less than 100 direct employees, all located at the headquarters in California. That’s not exactly a number you can run an entire manufacturing plant with, so this confirms that their production is indeed not local, but outsourced abroad.

THOR Appliances may want us to “Cook Like a God,” but…did the gods even cook for themselves? Probably not. And if they did, would they use imported stoves?
