Big ideas are born in trying times. That’s exactly what brought about Recteq Grills during the recession of 2009. Co-founders Ray Carnes and Ron Cundy got the itch to pursue a dream of building the perfect grill.
Recteq’s mantra is “grab life by the horns,” and it’s certainly their business ethos too. Over the years, the company has greatly expanded and developed a robust and loyal customer base. Recteq isn’t just a grill builder; they also aim to inspire.
The brand is built around the aesthetic of catering to not just your Labor Day hot dog party planner, but the grilling enthusiast. Aside from selling grills, they also operate the Recteq Academy and Ray’s Club, platforms that feature founder-made content, culinary classes, and swag distribution.
On their website, Recteq sells pellet grills, accessories, sauces, coolers, and other merchandise. They own a large facility in their home state, Georgia. We wanted to know if this is where the grills are being made. Let’s toss a few pellets in and light this investigation up.
Verdict: Are Recteq Grills Made in the USA?
No, Recteq grills are not made in the USA. Most of their products are manufactured in China, but a few supplementary items, such as sauces and rubs, are produced in the United States.
Recteq is based in Augusta, Georgia, and completes some portion of the grill assembly process at this location. However, the majority of manufacturing takes place in China.
The label below is from an older model when the company went by the name of Rectec:

The company transitioned to the name “Recteq” in 2020, apparently to use the letter Q as a symbol of quality. I know what you’re wondering, and no, they didn’t change their manufacturing location at the same time.
Although the grills are not made in the US, Recteq does sell a few items that are, such as their sauces and rubs. However, this information isn’t shared on each individual sauce product page. In fact, you can only find it listed on the Bundle product description shown below.

Recteq does a decent job of providing adequate information about their grills (aside from where they’re made, that is), but not so much on the rest of the products they sell. For a brand that likes to hawk a lifestyle in with their vibes, they’re missing the mark.
If your rubs and sauces use the highest quality ingredients, let us see the farms, know the growers, and watch the harvest. They’re made in the USA, so let the viewer into the kitchen with the makers. What’s the story behind these blends? You sell t-shirts too? Not only do we want to know where they were made, but what are they even made of? Some people have allergies, ok.
We reached out directly to Recteq to ask about their products. The rep originally tried to evade the question, but we eventually got our answers. Well, for the most part. Here is that conversation:

And more from our chat:

According to the Recteq representative, if it is made of metal, it is definitely not made in the US. And if it isn’t made with metal, it’s a guessing game. We know for sure that the sauces, rubs, and wood pellets are all produced here in America, but “as far as I am aware” isn’t very solid ground to stand on for the rest of their inventory.
