How to Find Fire Pits Made in the USA

What Does “Made in the USA” Mean?

When a company says a fire pit is “Made in the USA,” that claim should only be used if the product is “all or virtually all” made here, including the welding, fabrication, and materials. That’s straight from the FTC’s definition. However, enforcement is weak, and some brands use loose terms that sound more patriotic than they really are.

You might see phrases like:

  • Assembled in the USA – Parts could come from anywhere.
  • Designed in the USA – Actual production likely happens overseas.
  • Made in the USA with imported materials – Some parts are foreign, but assembly happens here.

That’s why we dig into every brand we feature — so you know exactly what you’re buying. For more on this, check out our guide: How to Find Made in the USA Products.

Materials

Fire pits are built to take heat and weather, which means the quality of materials really matters. Here’s what to watch for:

Steel

Most fire pits are made from carbon steel or stainless steel. The U.S. still has strong domestic steel production, and the best American-made brands use it. Carbon steel is durable and will patina over time. Stainless steel resists rust and holds its shine. Either way, if a fire pit is truly American-made, the company will usually mention that the steel is U.S.-sourced.

Cast Iron

Cast iron is less common but offers excellent heat retention. There are still foundries in the U.S. (like Golden Cast Iron) that make these locally. Be careful, though; most imported cast iron comes from China.

Copper

Used in high-end fire pits like those from Havens Luxury Metals and Fire Pit Art. Copper is often sourced globally, but these brands do all their shaping and finishing in the U.S., which qualifies them for a genuine Made in the USA label.

Labeling

Look closely at product pages and tags when you’re shopping. Companies that really build their products here are proud to say it – and they’ll say it clearly. Others might use vague language like “crafted with American pride” without stating the origin outright.

Here’s your quick label decoder:

  • Made in the USA – Built here, mostly or entirely from American parts.
  • Assembled in the USA – Final assembly only.
  • Made in USA with imported materials – Often still a great product, but not 100% domestic.
  • Hand-finished or designed in the USA – Doesn’t mean it’s American-made.

Final Tips

When you buy a fire pit made in the USA, you’re getting more than a backyard upgrade; you’re investing in long-lasting quality and keeping jobs and skills alive here at home.

To get the most out of your search:

  • Look for brands that are up-front about where their materials and labor come from.
  • Ask about steel origin – U.S. steel is stronger and more durable.
  • Skip vague marketing – if it doesn’t say “Made in the USA,” it probably isn’t.
