Furniture
The furniture industry has deep roots in American manufacturing. According to the latest data we have, there are over 9,000 household furniture manufacturing businesses in the U.S. However, not all of them are made in the USA. While the furniture industry is still strong in the U.S., it is not what it used to be and has followed a trend of globalization similar to other industries like textiles and tools. I recently read “The Furniture Wars” by Michael Dugan, which really put into perspective the tens of thousands of jobs and billions of dollars that have exited our American economy as a result of this shift overseas. If you’re interested, it’s a great read. But it’s not all doom and gloom. There are so many amazing furniture manufacturers alive and well in the U.S. making 100% of their furniture in the USA and supporting American jobs.
