How to Find Concealed Carry Purses Made in the USA

We don’t just want to give you recommendations for brands – we want to equip you with the knowledge to do your own research to find American made concealed carry purses. Here is more information on the industry, labeling, what “made in the USA” actually means, and a bunch more to help you in your search.

What Does “Made In The USA” Mean?

To be considered “made in the USA,” a product must be all or nearly all made in the United States. This includes not only manufacturing but also raw materials sourcing. Unfortunately, companies are allowed to police themselves when it comes to determining whether the goods they produce meet this qualification. That’s why you will want to do your own research to guarantee what you buy wasn’t made outside the U.S.

For more information, read the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) rules or our guide to made-in-the-USA labeling.

Materials

Now that we’ve clarified what “made in the USA” really means, let’s look at the materials commonly used in concealed carry purses and where they are typically sourced from. This will help you find ones that were produced stateside.

Leather

Leather is one of the most common materials used to make handbags, including concealed carry ones. Purse manufacturers often use cowhide leather, which is plentiful in the U.S. More than half of the cowhide used in the domestic leather sector comes from within our borders.

However, other types of leather are rare in the United States. For example, lambskin is usually imported from Australia, New Zealand, and Europe.

Canvas

Canvas is a sturdy fabric popular for making purses. Like cowhide leather, it is easy to find in the U.S. Even though China is the global leader in canvas production and exporting, much of the canvas the domestic textile industry uses is produced here. But keep in mind that Asia and Central America produce their fair share of this material, meaning you will want to double-check that your concealed carry purse is made from material sourced from the United States.

Cotton

Manufacturers like to use cotton to make purse linings. Fortunately, the United States produces more than 3 million tons of this material each year, making it a major player in the global market. Still, China and India rank ahead of the U.S. in cotton production, so it’s important to do your research to determine where brands source this fabric from.

Zippers

When shopping for a concealed carry purse, don’t forget to check where the zipper was made! YKK, a Japanese company, produces the majority of zippers used worldwide. Fortunately, this manufacturer has some factories in the USA. In addition, some zipper companies are based here, including Talon and Coats & Clark.

Labeling

The next step in finding a domestically produced concealed carry purse is to look at the label to ensure it says “made in the USA.” Brands are required to indicate the country of origin for products on the packaging or on the item itself.

The FTC is charged with protecting American consumers from brands using false or misleading advertising tactics. Therefore, the agency has specific guidelines for manufacturers regarding product labeling. According to these guidelines, an item can only be labeled or promoted as being “made in the USA” if it was “all or virtually all” produced domestically. In other words, all major parts and processing must happen within the U.S. However, some assembly can take place overseas.

It’s also crucial to remember that the FTC is simply unable to check every product out there to make sure it is labeled correctly. Sadly, this means brands can easily get away with claiming their goods were made here when they weren’t. This means even a “made in the USA” label doesn’t guarantee that a concealed carry purse was produced within our borders. That’s another reason to research companies to ensure they aren’t trying to pull the wool over consumers’ eyes.

One way brands try to trick shoppers is by using confusing language such as “assembled in the USA,” which means the product was only assembled here. Another example is “made in America,” which may indicate an item was actually manufactured in Canada or Mexico. In conclusion, be skeptical when looking at labels if you want to buy something genuinely made in the USA.

More Tips

Besides checking for the “made in the USA” label, there are a few other tips to ensure you’re purchasing a domestic concealed carry purse.

Look at the Brand Website

Companies that make their goods in the USA will likely boast about it because they know it is a draw for many shoppers. So, be sure to check the brand’s website, particularly the “About Us” page or product description pages. If you don’t see the phrase “made in the USA” in either of those places, their concealed carry purses most likely weren’t made here because companies are under no legal obligation to state the country of origin for their goods online.

Ask the Company Directly

If you still have doubts about where a concealed carry purse came from, simply call the brand’s customer service number or start an online chat on their website. A company representative should be able to tell you about the bag’s country of origin and raw materials sourcing. It is also a good idea to look at the brand’s social media accounts and/or Amazon page.

Here are some popular companies that don’t make their concealed carry purses domestically. As we continue our research, we will add to this list.

  • Nine Line – imported
  • Jessie & James Handbags – imported
  • Gun Tote’n Mamas (GTM) – imported
