Becoming a centenarian company is no easy feat, but brands like Toro have aged over 100 years and continue to grow. The Toro Company was founded in 1914 in Minneapolis. At the time, they constructed engines for farm tractors. But just a few years later, Toro invented the very first mechanized fairway mower for golf courses.
Less than 10 years after the company’s founding, Toro established a national network for distributing golf course equipment. By 1925, they were the “#1 manufacturer of golf maintenance equipment and irrigation solutions in the world.”
A short production shift occurred in the 1940s to support manufacturing during World War II. Shortly after, Toro was right back to building maintenance products and expanded its range to include snow blowers, power mowers, ice management, and more.
Today, Toro employs over 11,000 people and brings in over $4.5 billion in revenue annually. Just as they always have, Toro keeps up with modern innovations, utilizing robotic solutions and evolving technology in their products. The company is headquartered in Bloomington, Minnesota, but they mow lawns all over the world. Read on to find out where Toro Mowers are being built.
Verdict: Are Toro Mowers Made in the USA?
Based on our research, only some Toro Mowers are made in the USA. Toro has a large manufacturing footprint across the US and Mexico, accounting for over 90% of its total manufacturing hours.
Toro Mowers operates worldwide yet maintains its largest presence in the USA, with about 90% of manufacturing occurring in North America. Aside from the headquarters in Bloomington, Toro also operates several manufacturing plants across the country.

The United States is by far Toro’s largest market. About 80% of sales occur in the US, while the remaining 20% are from the other 124 countries combined.

A search for “Made in USA” on the website was disappointing. It revealed 7 products, including one mower and one chainsaw, with the remaining items being “Made in USA” decals with no product description or image.
The two products that came up from that search did not specify a manufacturing location on their web pages. We even searched the product manuals and found nothing. When leads keep delivering us to dead ends, it’s time to reach out directly to the company, so that’s what we did. Here is our conversation with Toro customer service:
AA: Hello, I would like to know which Toro mowers are made in the US
Toro: All Toro products on the website are made in the USA.
AA: Okay, I didn’t see that specifically on each product page
Toro: I’ve been informed that the mowers sold on our website in the US are made here, mostly at the Minnesota plant. You can check with your local dealer or the model number plate on each product.
Despite this call with the customer service rep, we think it’s probably prudent to check each item you are shopping for individually. We found model number labels that conflicted with what the rep said, stating that Mexico was the country of origin. It’s possible the employee we spoke to meant North America rather than the USA.
Granted, all products we scoped were either labeled with USA or Mexican origins, and we found no products from other countries. Mexico is still within the North American footprint, and according to Toro’s manufacturing map linked above, 90% of manufacturing hours occur in North America.
A quick way to verify where your mower might be from is to check the model and serial number plate on the equipment itself. Here are a few examples from Toro products:
