About

Orvis is one of the oldest and most prestigious brands in fly fishing. The company was founded in 1856 by Charles F. Orvis, who lived on a farm on the banks of the Battenkill River in central Vermont. After observing how his English friends were making their own rod and line tackle, he soon discovered that American fly fishermen were equally as interested in improving their equipment. One of the first items to be marketed was a fly line which he called “Perfection.” In 1874 he moved to Manchester, Vermont, where he started manufacturing fly lines and rods in the basement of his house. Shortly after, the Orvis Company began to expand its product line and was incorporated in 1879.

Orvis only has some products that are made in the USA. Namely, their roper boots.
