How to Find Pull Up Bars Made in the USA
With most manufacturing taking place abroad today, it’s become more and more difficult to find American-made products. But with this guide, you should be able to find pull up bars made in the USA without too much of a hassle!
What Does “Made in the USA” Mean?
Before we jump in, let’s define what it means for something to be made in the USA. According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), “made in the USA” means “all or virtually all” of the product is made in the United States. This includes all parts of the manufacturing process – from the sourcing of the raw materials to the actual manufacturing and assembly of the product.
To learn more about this, check out our complete “made in the USA” guide. Now, let’s dive into material sourcing for pull up bars.
Materials
The first step to finding anything made in the USA is to look at the materials used in the construction of the product. In terms of pull up bars, they are almost always entirely made of steel. Learning where steel comes from can give you a huge leg up in understanding where pull up bars are made.
More than half of the world’s steel comes from China, with other Asian countries like India and Japan also being huge producers of steel. The United States does not produce as much steel as these Asian countries, but the USA still comes in fourth in terms of steel production, so it still produces a significant amount of the material.
Additionally, it’s important to note that USA-made steel is three times stronger than Chinese steel, so if you’re after quality, USA-made steel is the way to go. While foreign-made steel may often be cheaper, this vast gap in quality makes it all the more imperative that you look specifically for products made with steel made in the USA. Since the pull up bar will be holding up your body weight and more, quality is important!
Labeling
The second step to finding pull up bars made in the USA is to look at the labeling. According to Title 19 Chapter 4 Section 1304 of the United States Code, all products made abroad must be labeled as such. This law helps us to weed out foreign-made products. Instead, when looking for American-made pull up bars, look for the FTC-protected label “made in the USA.”
While the “made in the USA” definitely makes things easier when looking for American-made products, there are a few things to watch out for.
Firstly, there is no pre-approval process for the “made in the USA” label. This means any company can put this label on their product if they believe their product meets the requirements to use it. And ultimately, it’s up to the consumers to report any false usage of the label.
Secondly, there are many labels that may sound synonymous with “made in the USA” but are not. Examples of such labels include:
- Made in America: America can refer to either Canada or Mexico
- Assembled in the USA: Only a small part of the manufacturing process takes place in the United States.
- Designed in the USA: Similar to the above, only a small part of the manufacturing process takes place in the United States.
And lastly, one final thing to watch out for is the American flag sticker on labels. Just because you see an American flag on the product’s label or packaging does not automatically mean the product is made in the United States. The use of the flag on labels is not regulated, so take it with a grain of salt.
Other Tips
Here are our other tips to help you find pull up bars made in the USA.
Go Online
“Made in the USA” is a huge selling point, so if this is the case, this should be advertised loudly and proudly on the company’s website. You should be able to find this information in the “About Us” section or on the product page itself.
On the other hand, if you can’t find any information regarding the country of origin of the product, it’s likely to have been made abroad. Companies are not required to state the country of origin of their products on their online or promotional materials.
You can also check the company’s social media pages for information regarding the product’s manufacturing process. You can also directly message them on social media for more details.
Check Amazon
Online shopping websites like Amazon may sometimes put information regarding the country of origin of a product in the Product Description. If you can’t find that information there, another good place to check is the FAQ section.
Call the Company
If you’re still unsure about a particular pull up bar you are currently researching, simply call the company and ask. A sales representative should be able to help answer your questions.
