Where Are Michael Kors Bags Made?

Michael Kors has been the brand in your mother’s closet for decades. How did it get its start? Launched in 1981, the brand made its debut at the Bergdorf Goodman, an elite department store in New York City. Soon after that, a ready-to-wear line was released for French house Celine.

Menswear hit the scene in 2002, and over the years, a smattering of celebrities have been seen donning the MK logo. Among the many are Taylor Swift, Emily Blunt, Kamala Harris, Heidi Klimt, and more. Those labels come stamped on a wide variety of products, such as purses, gowns, shoes, and the famed MK bag line.

The Michael Kors line is held under the parent brand Capri Holdings Limited. Also under Capri are the brands Versace and Jimmy Choo. This fashion holding company is estimated to be worth over $8.5 billion. It employs over 15,000 people worldwide and has executive offices in London and operations offices in New York.

With a global presence and international operations, Michael Kors’s imprint spreads far and wide. But where does it originate? We looked into where the bags are manufactured.

Verdict: Are Michael Kors Bags Made in the USA?

No, Michael Kors Bags are not made in the USA. Most of the products sold by Michael Kors are made in countries across Asia.

The bags sold by Michael Kors are made all over the world, including locations such as China, Korea, Indonesia, Italy, Taiwan, Vietnam, the Philippines, and others. Truly an international operation.

Some product pages feature extensive information about the manufacturing and sourcing of materials. For instance, the MKC Monogramme bag even goes so far as to describe the factory where it’s made and detail the process of its production.

This same collection even offers information on material sourcing. Italian crocodiles, how fancy!

As expected, not all Michael Kors bags come from Italian crocodiles. Some are made from polyurethane and polyester blends. Unsurprisingly, the brand isn’t quite as elaborative when it comes to describing where these materials come from or where the bags are made. Any guesses? Two hints: it’s not Italy, and it’s not the USA.

Michael Kors is all over the map. Besides those luxe collections that boast about their manufacturing location (like the Italian crocodiles above), it might be tricky to find out where each individual bag was manufactured. So, the best course of action is to check the interior tag. Here, you’ll find the product serial number and a “Made In…” label.

And another:

You can also find the manufacturing location on some, not ALL, of the bags on their website product pages. Hint: if it simply says “Imported,” they probably aren’t all that proud of where the bag was made.

And another description:

Michael Kors stores can be found all over the world, from Los Angeles to Shanghai, and so can their manufacturing plants. According to MK themselves, they conduct business in over 100 countries. However, there is one region of the world where nearly all of the production gets done: Asia.
