Where Are Mercer Knives Made?

Mercer Culinary is one of the biggest names in commercial kitchen knives. They’ve been around for over 30 years and are the primary supplier for most culinary schools around the United States. Not only do they offer knives, but they also have sharpening tools, turners and servers, plating, storage, safety and sanitation products, and other kitchen tools. They are headquartered in Ronkonkoma, New Jersey, but are any of the knives and other products made in the USA? We dug in. Our research and verdict are below.

Verdict: Are Mercer Knives Made in the USA?

Only some Mercer Culinary knives are made in the USA. 2.2% to be exact, according to our analysis of their entire online catalog. The majority of their knives are made in Taiwan and China.

Mercer Culinary is one of the few brands that discloses the country of origin on the product pages of their website. So, we looked at all 833 products in their online store and found the country of origin for everything. Here’s how it breaks down:

  • Taiwan – 41.4%
  • China – 32.9%
  • Guatemala -15.1%
  • China, Taiwan – 6.7%
  • USA – 2.0%
  • Germany – 0.7%
  • Spain – 0.4%
  • USA with US and Globally Sourced Material – 0.2%
  • India – 0.2%
  • Dominican Republic – 0.1%
  • Pakistan – 0.1%

If you’re looking at a particular model, you can find the country of origin in the “Specs” area of their product pages, as shown below. We did find a few products that didn’t list the country of origin though (like the Genesis knives), so if you encounter any of those, just shoot them a message and ask.

While we appreciate their transparency, it is disappointing that the majority of Mercer Culinary knives are made in Taiwan, China, and Guatemala. Hopefully they consider reshoring sometime soon. In the meantime, here are some of their most popular products and where they are made. You can also check out our research on kitchen knives (linked below) to find better options made in the USA.
