About

Brunton was established in 1894 and is a renowned manufacturer of precision equipment (like compasses) for outdoor enthusiasts. Brunton gained recognition for inventing the pocket transit, a compact and portable surveying tool, patented by D.W. Brunton. Over the years, Brunton expanded its product line, introducing military adaptations, recreational compasses, optics, and other outdoor gear. The company has undergone ownership changes, including acquisitions by Silva Production AB and Fiskars, before being acquired by Fenix in 2010. In 2021, Brunton returned to its roots, becoming a family-owned business based in Riverton, Wyoming.
