McRae Footwear was founded in 1959 – their factory being in the same school building the founder attended years before. Starting as a U.S. footwear manufacturer, they transitioned in 1967 to become military footwear manufacturers for the U.S. Department of Defense. These boots were used by soldiers in Vietnam and remained a mil-spec item until well into the 1990s. Now McRae Footwear manufactures commercial versions of these boots, as well as continuing to compete on military contracts for the Army, U.S Marines, and Air Force. They work out of two factories in North Carolina and are passionate about being made in the USA.
