Where Are Callaway Golf Clubs Made?

The world’s largest manufacturer of golf clubs is Callaway, currently known as Topgolf Callaway Brands. They’ve been in business since 1982, when the company was founded by Ely Callaway Jr, a man of the textile industry and an avid golfer.

Over the years, the Callaway brand has acquired smaller companies and businesses, including those from the golf, bag, and apparel sectors. They went public in 1992 and have seen steady growth and success.

The company is based in Carlsbad, California, and operates worldwide. It employs over 24,000 people and typically generates revenue of over $1 billion annually.

In 2020, Callaway acquired Topgolf Entertainment Group, an in-person driving range game venue with locations worldwide. The transition from delivering solely products to experiences proved successful for Callaway, and the company has continued to grow.

Although Callaway calls California home, it has plenty of stamps in its passport book. Read on to find out where the brand’s manufacturing takes place.

Verdict: Are Callaway Golf Clubs Made in the USA?

Only some Callaway golf products are made in the USA. Premium golf balls are manufactured in the United States, and all other products are produced in various countries abroad like China, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

According to the company’s 2021 Sustainability Report, they run manufacturing facilities at multiple sites around the world:

The image above combines the same icon for distribution, manufacturing, and corporate offices. From our research, we discovered that only one Callaway factory is located in the US. The other icons within the US represent distribution, corporate offices, or assembly sites. The majority of Callaway products are made overseas, mostly in Asia. The same applies to Callway’s supplier facilities.

And the map:

Prior to 2010, Callaway assembled its golf clubs in its headquarters city of Carlsbad, California. At that time, about 40% of its golf clubs were put together (not fully manufactured) in Carlsbad. But in 2010, they announced a move to Monterrey, Mexico. Now, all golf clubs are manufactured and assembled internationally. Raw materials are sourced both domestically and abroad.

Callaway manufactures some of its golf balls domestically. They own a Chicopee, Massachusetts plant called the Chicopee Golf Ball Plant. The factory itself has been manufacturing golf balls since 1896. Here, they produce premium-level golf balls. These include Chrome Soft and the ERC Soft golf balls.

Recently, the brand invested $50 million to renovate its Chicopee facility, which resulted in a 60% increase in personnel and modernization of its golf ball production.

Although their premium balls are made in the US, other products, including cheaper golf balls, are produced in locations like China.
