About

Taylor Guitars manufactures acoustic and electric guitars at facilities in El Cajon, California, but, unfortunately, also in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico.

Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug founded the company in 1974 after purchasing a San Diego guitar shop called the American Dream. The El Cajon factory produces the 300 Series and higher-end models using all-solid wood construction, while the Tecate facility manufactures entry-level instruments, including the Baby Taylor, GS Mini, and Academy Series. Taylor employs over 1,200 workers across both locations and produces hundreds of guitars daily using a combination of computer-controlled milling, laser cutting, and hand craftsmanship. The company transitioned to 100% employee ownership through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan in 2021.
