About

Nolting Manufacturing builds longarm quilting machines and frames at its plant in Hiawatha, Iowa. Fred Nolting began developing a longarm quilting machine in Missouri in the 1970s and established the company as a full-time business in 1984, later moving operations to Hiawatha. Dan Terrill bought the company in 2001, and Melissa McAfee purchased it in October 2019, when it had 19 employees.

The company produces its machines and frames in-house, including its own pulleys, shafts, and gears, and outsources only painting to a company in nearby Marion, Iowa. Machines are built to order, with buyers choosing frame color, size, length, and height. The current lineup runs from the entry-level Raya through the Flair and Elara to the Diamond, and Nolting sells to hobby quilters as well as quilters who run quilting businesses. Engineering and customer support staff work at the Hiawatha facility, and the company also sells factory-recertified used machines.
