About

KnKut is a line of metal cutting tools for the automotive aftermarket, produced by R.W. Thompson, Inc., an industrial tool company headquartered in Loganville, Georgia. R.W. Thompson introduced the KnKut brand in 1996, extending a business the company had operated since 1982. The product line includes twist drills, step drill bits, carbide-tipped bits, cobalt drill bits, spot weld drill bits, car reamers, carbide burrs, and taps, sold primarily to automotive repair shops and distributors.

KnKut’s twist drills are made from molybdenum high-speed steel with added vanadium content and a salt-nitride surface treatment, while its step drill bits and reamers use moly alloy steel with a gold-colored coating; carbide-tipped bits are rated for 48 to 65 Rockwell C hardness. Cobalt drill bits are designed for high-tensile and work-hardening materials such as stainless steel, titanium, and armor plate, and spot weld bits are used to remove factory welds during auto body panel replacement. The entire KnKut line is manufactured in the United States, mostly geared toward the automotive aftermarket.
