Approaching half a century old, Dell is a tech company born at the very beginning of the tech rush. It was founded in 1984 by Michael Dell, then a college freshman at the University of Texas at Austin. Before completing his first year of school, he dropped out to focus entirely on his business venture.
In just a few years, Dell opened its first international subsidiary in the United Kingdom, with many more to follow soon after. They made the Fortune 500 list in 1992, when Michael Dell was only 27.
In 2022, Dell’s annual revenue surpassed $100 billion, and it was named the Number 1 Most Loved Workplace in America by Newsweek. Today, the company employs over 120,000 people, operates worldwide, and grosses above $88 billion in revenue annually. Yet, their heart remains in Texas.
Michael Dell continues to serve as the company’s CEO, and, true to its place of founding, Dell is headquartered in Round Rock, Texas. Clearly not still being built out of a college dorm room at UT, Dell has a global presence. We wanted to find out where they are building their systems today. You might not be able to take the Texas out of Dell, but can you manufacture the Dell out of Texas?
Verdict: Are Dell Computers Made in the USA?
No, Dell computers are not manufactured in the USA. Production mainly occurs in East Asian countries, including China and Malaysia.
Dell is a global company, not just in popularity. Their operations are spread across the world and take place in far more than one central location. One hundred and seventy different countries, to be exact. The majority of manufacturing occurs in China, but various models are also built in Brazil, Vietnam, and the United Arab Emirates.
An easy way to find out where your Dell computer was made is to simply flip it over and check the label. Most Dell products will feature a sticker or plaque with information like serial number, disposal labeling, and country of origin. This information is likely also visible on the outer packaging of new products.

We reached out to customer service to ask if any computers were made in the USA. Here is their response:

According to Dell, several manufacturing facilities are located in the United States. This includes Austin, Texas, and North Carolina. However, complete assembly is not conducted at these sites. Instead, they are utilized for testing and final assembly of computers. Under Made in America labeling laws, products cannot be labeled “Made in USA” unless the majority of manufacturing occurs in the USA.
Got it, no computers made in the US. But, does Dell have anything made here? Turns out they do. Well, kind of. You aren’t going to find an entire laptop, but if the country of origin is important to you, you can shop for a total of three items from Dell.

Dell computers are not made in the USA, but Dell retains an interest in supporting American manufacturing. With their technology systems and solutions, they support US-based brands like New Belgium Brewing. Does this include building laptops specifically? No, but American manufacturing will take all the help it can get.
