About

Teal Drones is a Salt Lake City, Utah-based small unmanned aircraft systems manufacturer founded in 2014 by George Matus, who started the company as a teenager after receiving a Thiel Fellowship grant. The company designs, develops, and manufactures its drone systems entirely in Salt Lake City, with its Black Widow and Teal 2 platforms serving all branches of the U.S. Department of Defense as short-range reconnaissance assets. Teal Drones is a wholly owned subsidiary of publicly traded Red Cat Holdings and holds Blue UAS certification from the U.S. Department of Defense, which requires domestic production and verified supply chain security. The company secured a U.S. Army contract in 2024 that could be worth over 260 million dollars for small reconnaissance drones. All hardware and software development for Teal products is conducted at the Utah manufacturing facility.
