Speer was founded in 1943 by Vernon Speer, who decided to help with the WWII war front by building bullets because reloaders couldn’t get the components they needed from ammo companies. Focusing on hunting rifle bullets in the first instance, Speer went on to build the first mass-produced jacketed handgun bullets for both law enforcement and hunters. Speer’s Lawman line and Speer Gold Dot have become some of the most famous ammunition, with the Speer Gold Dot being the most trusted duty ammunition by law enforcement. All of their products are still manufactured from their site in the small city of Lewiston, Idaho.
