Gilson Snow was founded by middle school science teachers Nicholas Gilson and Austin Royer. They led a class project exploring fluid dynamics in snow, borrowing concepts from surfing and sailing and using a rudimentary prototype that Nick built when he was 14 (the same age as his students). The project resulted in many failures but ultimately an early innovative Gilson design. The company was launched in 2013 out of the classroom with their students. All of Gilson’s boards are made consciously in America using locally sourced materials with a focus on reduced carbon.
