About
Coleman manufactures outdoor recreation equipment, including coolers, tents, sleeping bags, lanterns, and camp stoves, but only some of their products are assembled in the USA.
William Coffin Coleman founded the company in 1902 in Wichita, Kansas, after encountering gasoline pressure lamps while working as a typewriter salesman in Alabama. He improved the lamp design and began selling it as the Coleman Arc Lamp, establishing Wichita as the company’s manufacturing base. Coleman expanded into camping equipment in the 1950s, adding coolers, tents, and sleeping bags to its product line. The company supplied portable stoves to U.S. military personnel during World War II. Coleman maintains domestic manufacturing operations in Wichita, Kansas, and New Braunfels, Texas, where a portion of its product line is produced. Other products are manufactured overseas. The company was acquired by Jarden Corporation in 2004 and became part of Newell Brands following a 2015 acquisition, with corporate headquarters now located in Chicago, Illinois.
They clearly state which products are made in the USA in the product descriptions on their website. You can read about our investigation into some of their products in our Where Is Coleman Made? breakdown.
